Irish citizens living in Australia or New Zealand may need to travel on a valid Irish passport for entry or transit through the UK from February 25, 2026.

This update may affect Irish citizens in Australia or New Zealand travelling to or transiting through the UK.

Born in Ireland

You are automatically an Irish citizen and may need a valid Irish passport for UK travel.

Irish through FBR

If you completed Foreign Birth Registration, you may need an Irish passport.

Planning UK travel

Any travel to England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland in 2026 or later.

Expired Irish passport

If your passport is expired or expiring soon, start with eligibility.

Dual AU / NZ + Irish

You may not be able to rely on an Australian or NZ passport alone.

UK transit

Connecting flights through the UK may also require an Irish passport.
