This update may affect Irish citizens living in Canada or the USA who are travelling to or transiting through the UK in 2026 or later.
You are automatically an Irish citizen and may need a valid Irish passport for UK travel or transit.
If you completed Foreign Birth Registration through a parent or grandparent, you may need an Irish passport.
Any travel to England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland after February 25, 2026.
If your passport is expired or expiring soon, check eligibility so you follow the correct pathway before applying.
If you hold Irish citizenship, you may not be able to rely on a Canadian or US passport alone for UK entry or transit.
Even connecting flights through UK airports may require the correct Irish travel document.
